Port Adelaide Eyewear became the first Optometry practice to offer the SeeonixBIO genetic test for glaucoma risk in August 2023. This is a simple cheek swab test, but it provides incredibly powerful information on glaucoma risk. We find it valuable for advising people of their need to be regularly tested for glaucoma and in some cases, when to commence treatment.
We strongly recommend this test to anybody with a family history of glaucoma or any other risk factors. The problem with family history is that you don’t know if you inherited the problem gene or not. This genetic test allows us to find that out and hence whether someone is at low, medium or high risk of developing glaucoma.
