Gemma Ji
Optometrist
BOptom (First Class Honours)
Gemma is a therapeutically endorsed optometrist originally from New Zealand. She graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland before beginning her career in country practice in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.
Gemma has a genuine passion for improving access to eye care. She has worked with the Brien Holden Vision Institute delivering eye care services to Indigenous communities in Central Australia, and she continues to provide care to remote and rural communities across South Australia. These experiences have shaped her belief that everyone deserves high-quality, compassionate eye care close to home.
Alongside her outreach work, Gemma has practiced in private clinics in Adelaide and has completed further training in specialty contact lens fitting, including rigid gas permeable (RGP) and custom soft lenses. She enjoys working across the full scope of optometry, with particular interest in helping children optimise their vision for sport and everyday activities. Having managed myopia herself while competing in swimming as a child, Gemma understands firsthand how important good vision is for performance and enjoyment.
Outside of work, Gemma enjoys fostering dogs and is currently taking on the challenge of learning to surf.
